MZ Farms is pleased to announce a partnership with USHJA to provide the Emerging Athletes Program. This three-year partnership with the USHJA perfectly blends their passions for education, horsemanship, and riding.
Cathy shared, “The Emerging Athletes Program was highly recommended to us by our trainer, Shayne Wireman, and her daughter Skylar. We feel blessed to be very hands-on with our horses at Chestnut Hills and we are constantly learning management techniques and skills from the Wiremans. Over time we have heard numerous references to EAP Stable Manager Anne Thornbury and how she helped shape their own approach and techniques to horsemanship. Our unofficial barn motto is ‘Always Learning’ and EAP beautifully complements that approach”.
As a board member for the Interscholastic Equestrian Association, Cathy also appreciates that EAP is accessible to a broad cross section of riders who may not show extensively but are eager and hungry to learn from top level clinicians and the program provides riders with unique networking opportunities. Cathy noted, “We have personally witnessed how being an EAP Alumni member has increased our daughter’s access to top level training professionals and riders as well as her contemporaries who we knew by name at shows but now know more personally through their joint involvement in EAP”.
Steve explained, “Our daughter participated in the regional clinics for the past two years and both experiences were life-changing in her horsemanship and riding. She was able to visit and ride in two phenomenal facilities (Ned Glynn’s Sonoma Valley Stable and Jim Hagman’s Elvenstar Farm) as well as learn from amazing clinicians Jeff Cook and Joe Fargis and incredible stable managers Amy Center and Julia Hogan. We also appreciated that our daughter had the opportunity to spend time with and get to know Mary Knowlton when she served as the EAP USHJA representative at SVS in 2021, because her hands-on, roll-up your sleeves and get involved approach was contagious and inspiring”.
The Muzzy Family and MZ Farms whole-heartedly believe that horses can change the world for the better. By providing riders with access to exercise, companionship, responsibility, and comradery, horses help to support both physical and mental wellness. They are committed to the education and development of young riders.
Congratulations to the 2023 EAP National Finalists and Champion Emily Grace Swinson! Emily Grace joined her fellow EAP National Finalists for an intensive program hosted by the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio from November 9th through 12th. Riding Clinician, Peter Wylde, worked with the group on their skills in the ring, while Stable Management Clinician, Colleen Reed, focused on care of the horses and management of the barn.
The culminating event of the program was a four team Nation's Cup competition. It was fun to watch Team Albany claim 1st place!
